Listen, there's

something you probably didn’t know about me (shhh). Ok, so what’s the big reveal? Well I played quarterback for football teams starting at age 8 all the way through high school. You probably just laughed and spit your drink out huh, thinking this skinny kid from Florida playing quarterback? My purpose for telling you this little known secret about me wasn’t to relive my glory days, rather, it was to share a principle I learned while playing football. It happens during HALFTIME, that 15-minute intermission between the end of the second quarter and the start of the third quarter.

HALFTIME is upon us, it’s Summer, which means we're halfway through the year. One of the greatest gifts a team and you can give yourself is to reflect upon what has transpired in the first half. In this case, it’s the first half of 2018.

So here are a few things I am doing to prepare for the second half and I thought they may inspire you too.

Step 1: Reflect upon what have you done in the first half and what small shifts need to take place to finish strong.

  • What have I accomplished in the first half?

  • What are some actions and strategies I need to leave in the first half?

  • What do I want the second half to look like and what specific steps do I need to take to succeed in the second half?

Step 2: Execute With Intentionality.

Listen, I learned to never give advice to others that I first haven’t done or am doing. So guess what, I’m working my plan right along with you. This means that we all may have done some great things in the first half to celebrate but we must remember, football games are two halves NOT ONE!

In the words of Dr. Sam Chand of Dream Releaser Coaching and Consulting, “What got you here, won’t get you there.”

To be intentionally critical, there are four core areas to look at:

  • Health Assessment. What’s your blood pressure, weight or heart rate look like? How often are you exercising (I added this one for myself)? Am I eating properly? When you’re your last checkup?

  • Educational Assessment. My mentor Les Brown says you should read at least 30 pages of something develops, educates or inspire you, DAILY! How often are you reading and what are you reading?

  • Financial Assessment. How’s you spending habits? Are you saving enough? Do you have life insurance or when was the last time you reviewed your policy?

  • Relationship Assessment. Am I being the best person I can be? Am I investing in the important relationships I’ve been blessed with? Who am I mentoring or pouring into?

As you prepare for the second half, this HALFTIME ASSESSMENT will help you to strategize while you’re in the locker room and come out with a re-aligned plan to WIN!
